I’ve done some plastic welding in my life. I enjoyed heating up plastic and making it into a brand new lever, cover, or bezel for an automobile, but I always wondered about pottery. I don’t know too much about it. I guess I know about as much as anyone else. The first time it made an impression on me was in The Karate Kid: Part 3. Daniel LaRusso walked into a pottery shop and saw the owner in the process of molding a pot, an art that has been around for thousands of years. I’ve often wondered how it would feel to completely transform clay.

The same God who spoke the universe into existence is also responsible for your distinctiveness. The One who controls all things knitted together all of our features. The fact that He thinks of us at all should humble us. Does it comfort you to know that God Almighty intentionally made you, that He continually molds you toward becoming more like Him?

This process takes a while and can be hectic. It involves meticulous heating, cooling, molding, and carving. In time, however, the Potter will transform the broken pot that He purchased into a masterpiece. By fully surrendering to Him, God can take rock hard clay, soften it, and give it new life. He is continually shaping us into the image of Jesus. He bought us with a price and we belong to Him. If life is tough, but be comforted. Jesus is shaping you into something new and amazing. Although it can be a difficult path, you can rely on Him.

Matthew 20:28

… the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.”
