It’s Wednesday, April 1st, AD 33. Jesus is traveling from Bethany to Jerusalem to continue teaching the people in the temple area. Nothing eventful happens today. The Jewish leaders (part of the Sanhedrin consisting of Pharisees, Sadducees and scribes) are meeting in secret in the palace of the High Priest, Caiaphas.
Matthew 26: 3-5 - “Then the chief priests and the elders of the people gathered in the palace of the high priest, whose name was Caiaphas, and plotted together in order to arrest Jesus by stealth and kill him.
But they said, ‘Not during the feast, lest there be an uproar among the people.’”
The Jewish leaders agree that Jesus must be killed, but not until the Feast of Unleavened Bread is over. This will be 7 days after the Passover celebration is completed. Little do they know that Jesus will be crucified on Passover day – the Lamb of God who died for the sins of the world.
