Psalm 103:12
As far as the east is from the west,
so far has He removed our wrongdoings from us.
Satan works hard to remind us of our past sins and failures. He finds pleasure in bringing up things God has already forgiven us for. Revelation 12:10 tells us that Satan is our accuser. If we are Christians, he's got nothing on us. When Jesus is Lord and Savior of a person, the Bible teaches that our sins have been removed from us as far as the east is from the west, as in our verse above.
So then, why does Satan accuse us of what we've been forgiven for? He wants to distract us from following Jesus. If he can get us to listen to his accusations, we can be shamed into believing that we have crossed the line and have lost our salvation. However, the fact is, eternal life cannot be lost. It is a gift that God does not take away. If we could lose it, it would be called temporary life.
1 John 1:7 states that the blood of Jesus cleanses us from all sin. If we look at the Greek text for this verse, we will see that the word “cleanses” is a continuous action that is occurring right now, for every believer in Christ. According to Professor Justin Alfred, “…the blood of Jesus is continually cleansing believers in Christ all the time, even when we are not aware of our sin. This cleansing is based on the righteousness of God given to us, not of our own efforts of being ‘good’.”
Has Satan distracted you from Jesus? Don't believe his lies. You have got a great life ahead of you.
I'm an advocate of praying the scripture. Next time you feel down and accused, remember 1 John 1:7, as much as you can. If you can only remember the meaning, use that. In any case, use that verse when you pray and stand on it. God's word is always true. The enemy can let the accusations fly, but don’t let him push you around anymore. Resist him and submit and go to Jesus instead (James 4:7). God loves you and He is on your side.
